SUCKING OUT LOUD (1999)

Riding the success of their fabulously popular Super Secret CD, Ookla embarked on a massive 2-year tour of the science fiction convention circuit. When sound wizard Bill Roper offered to record their November 14, 1998 concert at Windycon 25 in Chicago, the band jumped at the chance and made a deal to put out a CD. But Ookla's hectic tour schedule caught up with them--Adam got strept throat and lost his voice. Since the concert was going to be recorded and sold regardless of how it sounded, the band decided Adam would take one for the team and down a shot of brandy before each number (an old theatre trick; if your voice is hoarse a shot of brandy will get you through most of a song.) It worked! His voice recovered, and the quality of the recording is excellent. You can really hear the thud of Adam's skull hitting the stage during track eleven.
